If the city doesn’t appeal to you as a workshop location, how about by the coast instead?. Two fantastic seaside towns on the North Yorkshire Coast, offering wonderful views and creative compositions. This is not your regular seascape workshop, no, it’s better than that and I guarantee some great results and a new approach with your photography.

Dates

Weekdays only. The workshop is dependent on the tide. Email me to arrange dates and availability.

Time

The workshop starts at approx 10am on each day and last up to 6 hours. We take a break for a coffee on-route, to talk over what we have covered so far.

What’s excluded?

The price is for the workshop only. It does not include accommodation. You are therefore free to make your own arrangements for a hotel or Airbnb in either town to suit your budget. If you are not driving, a regular bus runs between the two seaside towns.

Whitby

The Yorkshire Coast is a diverse and dramatic location and the town of Whitby is steeped in history and offers an endless supply of subjects for the creative photographer. This seascape workshop takes in both sides of the town and includes the piers, the beach, harbour and the famous Whitby Steps. We look at wide views, as well as close up details, capturing everyday subjects in creative ways.

During the workshop we will cover all techniques required for creative seascape photography. We look at the use of wide angle lenses and using foreground to create interesting compositions. We look at how to capture classic seaside views, as well as creative views you may not have considered before. We then bring the attention to the smaller details, the more intimate views and how to capture imaginative images from everyday subjects a the coast.

Ideal for the complete beginner, this photography workshop is a great opportunity to learn the basics of seascape photography in a fun and relaxed environment. For the more advanced photographer, this workshop offers unique insight into the creative views I look for at the coast. This is a walking route only, so a good level of fitness and mobility is required, walking on beaches at low tide, but also climbing the many steps in each town (there’s only one way to see those fantastic views!).

Scarborough

A classic northern seaside town. We explore all the colour and attractions of the beach, as well as the best of the old town. If you like ornate street lamps and quaint alleyways, then Scarborough is the perfect location for you. Its not just deckchairs and ‘Kiss me Quick hats’ (though there is this too!). It’s a touch of urban with the fresh scent of sea air!

You will need to bring:

  • Digital camera of any type, whichever you use, we cater for all preferences!

  • A range of lenses from wide angle to telephoto. A standard zoom would be perfect or some primes!

  • Any filters you may have.

  • Waterproof clothing and good walking shoes is a must.

  • A thirst for knowledge and the willingness to become a more creative photographer!
