DAY ONE
On the first day we spend our time capturing the hustle and bustle, the shapes, the colour and the movement within Manchester’s city centre. Creative photography at its best. We explore the various highlights of the city centre. We explore the canals, the bridges and the Castlefield area that made Manchester great.
DAY TWO
On the second day...well, it’s more of the same really, but now on a brand new route! Manchester is changing and being regenerated, but not all the old buildings are being torn down. On this route we seek out the old and the new and combine them into our images. It’s the art of looking up and making exciting new compositions.

The workshop
During the workshop we will cover a range of techniques required for urban photography. We’ll look at the use of different lenses, creating abstracts, shooting for impact and making creative compositions. You’ll learn about the various controls and settings on your camera including choice of shutter speed and aperture, reading the histogram, changing ISO and using White Balance. We have various LEE filters for you to try, including ND grads (hard and soft type), Polarisers and ND Standards.
You’ll also learn to ‘see’. How to see as I do. This isn’t a ‘here’s a nice view, go take a picture’ type of workshop. No, I encourage you to find the picture and then we work together to make it the best version we can. Together we find the views other photographer’s seem to miss. Learn an approach that will serve you well in any environment, urban or landscape.
So, if you really DO want to learn, if you DO want to see as I see and become more confident with your camera and its settings, perhaps, give this two-day workshop a go.
How to book
This is a One2One workshop to guarantee personal tuition and individual help where needed. The workshop takes place on a Monday and Tuesday. Email me with your choice of dates.
Start and finish times
The workshop starts at approx 10.30am on the first day and 9.30am on day two and both days last up to 6 hours. We take a break for a coffee on-route, to talk over what we have covered so far.
What’s excluded?
The price is for the workshop only. It does not include accommodation, food or any transport costs. This is done to keep the costs to a minimum and so you can plan your own arrangements for hotels etc, which you may find cheap packages for.
You will need to bring:
A camera. Any camera! We cater for all types
A range of lenses from wide angle to telephoto. A standard zoom is perfect or just bring you favourite lens and we’ll work with that.
No tripod is required as we shoot handheld and set up our cameras to suit this style of shooting.
Any filters you have will be useful, but we have a range of LEE Filters for you to try too.
Waterproof clothing and sensible footwear.
