For a more personal and tailor-made photography tuition day, we offer a one-to-one service in a location of your choice. This service is ideal for the complete beginner who is struggling to get to grips with their new digital camera and feels they would feel out of place on a traditional photography workshop or those who are getting lost in a normal classroom situation.
We can work on location at a coastal, countryside or urban location or you can choose a location nearer to your home if you wish*.
Suggested Locations
Depending on your favourite type of photography, I have listed a few locations below that make ideal places to learn the skills mentioned. These are also locations that I know well and have photographed many times before.
Countryside - Peak District
The Peak District was Britain’s first National Park and has a wonderful rocky landscape of gritstone moors and limestone dales. Focusing on some of the famous locations in the Dark Peaks in the north such as Curbar Edge, Stanage Edge and Higger Tor.
Coastal - Yorkshire Coast
The Yorkshire Coast has some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK and therefore has some of the most wonderful locations for photography. Locations can include Staithes, Runswick Bay and Whitby.
Urban Landscape - Salford Quays
This rejuvenated area of Manchester is a fantastic place for photography. Home to the Lowry Centre and Imperial War Museum North, it has a stunning mix of architecture surrounding the canals and basins, offering a variety of composition opportunities.

- Night photography- Newcastle waterfront
- Historic house and grounds- Castle Howard, North Yorkshire
The workshop time can also be tailored to your requirements, but will usually last around 6 hours on location, depending on the time of year.
Home Visit
The tuition can even take place at your own home, where I can talk you through the controls of your camera at your pace and provide a presentation that covers the basic skills that apply to all types of photography, that as a complete novice you may be struggling to comprehend (we’ve all been there). I will explain in simple, easy to understand terms, the basics of digital photography and any other technique, feature or skill that may be holding you back from enjoying your hobby. As part of the home visit, we can also review your portfolio so far and point you in the right direction to making any improvements. Home visits last around 4 hours.
