End of an era
Its been reported this week that the icon of the film world that is Kodachrome 64, is to be discontinued by Kodak after 74 years in production. I remember this being my first ‘serious’ film after practising on print film for many years and being amazed by its clarity and contrast. Unfortunately, soon after, I discovered Velvia and found that the grass was definitely greener on the otherside (too green sometimes!). It’s still a shame that digital has now finally killed off this groundbreaking film. However, if the same thing happened to Velvia tomorrow...now that would make a grown man cry! Even Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 marked the event yesterday by playing Paul Simon’s Kodachrome during his show.

Photography Monthly
Check out the July issue of Photography Monthly magazine, which features one of my images on the front cover. There is also a feature on my Holga pictures in the Pro Portfolio section of the landscapes big guide. I’ve been promised a full feature article on all my toy camera work in an upcoming issue, so I’ll keep you posted on that. In addition to this, The Lady (dated 23 June) has featured my article on the the newly appointed South Downs National Park

Over the rainbow
Through bad luck or not being in the right place at the right time, or worse still in the right place at the right time, but without a camera, rainbows have been a feature of Mother Nature that I have never captured on film (I still talk in old terms I’m afraid, so yes film even though it usually is digital now). This month I seem to be making up for this with not one, but two successfully photographed in two different locations.
The first (seen below) was actually taken out of my bathroom window. Not exactly where I thought I would be on my first successful capture, but it proved ideal none the less. The second was photographed whilst driving from one location to the next in Hampshire after a sudden downpour. After the first grab shot from the side of the road, I ended up chasing the rain cloud down the road trying to get the visible rainbow over a nice landscape as it headed west. It proved to be a mad half hour and an ideal spot was never really found (sometimes pylons really get on my nerves), but at least I can now say I have a rainbow image on my files.
